Harmonisation of Soil and Terrain Information for the Southern African Region (SOTER-SAF)- Compilation of a regional SOTER and assessment of land suitability, land degradation risk, and changes in land qualities resulting from land use change. Funded by FAO, ISRIC and UNEP
The spatial and attribute soil and terrain database for 8 Southern African countries, at scale 1:2 million, was compiled according to the SOTER methodology, using existing information . It forms a part of the ongoing ctivities of ISRIC, FAO and UNEP to update the world's baseline information on natural resources.
It involved collaboration with national soil institutes from the countries in the region as well as individual experts.
The map is presented in Arc/Info export format and the soil and terrain attributes in a database (MsAccess format).
