Metadata Service

Objective:

The ISRIC - World Soil Information MetaData Service provides metadata from ISRIC and other organisations from around the world as part of our service to the international scientific community and other user communities.

The multilingual catalogue application allows users to:
1) manage spatially referenced resources
2) search and retrieve on-line metadata records for any dataset published by ISRIC - World Soil Information
3) search and retrieve on-line metadata records for maps and reports stored in the ISRIC - World Soil Library
4) search and retrieve on-line metadata records from harvested external data providers (e.g., FAO, CGIAR). It is the reference indexing and retrieval tool for the catalogue of soil data sources and other soil databases around the world.

Full metadata for ISRIC's data sets may also be accessed through the WDC portal at GCMD-NASA.

Implementation:

We implement the OGC-compliant Geonetwork open source, which is part of the Osgeo family of software packages. We employ an Apache2-Tomcat server, connected to our WoSIS database backend, which runs as a PostgreSQLl/PostGIS DB.
