Objective:
Open Soil Profiles, developed by ISRIC - World Soil Information, aims to enhance the collation of legacy (historic) data. The most valuable source of legacy soil data are field observations with laboratory analyses held in survey reports; sites may have been selected using purposive or random sampling. To facilitate archiving, harmonization and use of such data, ISRIC is implementing a system that will allow input and maintenance of international soil profile data that countries or user communities would like to share publicly (or under similar license).
Implementation:
Different graphical user interfaces are being developed, some of which may also be run in offline mode, for example in locations with limited internet access. All interfaces are connected/synchronized to our WoSIS database backend, which runs as a PostgreSQLl/PostGIS data bases.
